Neill Hughes

Introduction

My experience and training has taught me to support clients in formulating their own personal goals and help them recognise their intrinsic motivation to a fulfilling life. I recognise that a Person-Centred approach is paramount allowing the client to feel heard and accepted. The initial sessions would be used to ensure the right approach is utilised, whether to facilitate a safe space to be heard, or take a more problem-based approach such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I have extensive experience working with clients with trauma backgrounds, anxiety-based problems, Autism related issues and low mood.

I have a BA Hons 1st class degree in Person-Centred Counselling and Psychotherapy, a diploma and certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I have completed further training through both the Anna Freud centre, Tavistock and Portman, as well as training in Trauma Focused CBT for PTSD TF-CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Mentalization Based Therapy for families (MBT-F).  I am working towards becoming a certified Schema Therapist which is a large part of my current work.

I have learnt to be flexible in my approach as every client is an individual and I use evidence-based interventions to gain the best outcomes.

I am accredited with the BACP and have extensive experience working in public clinics, within social care, NHS referrals, University contracts and private practice.
